Marry Me... Reason #80

When I was at a Song of Solomon conference, Tom Nelson told a story of a widow who had just lost her husband. Her husband was a 4 star General in the Navy and she said when he died, "We were married for 60 years and during that entire time, not once did my husband ever hurt me."

I hope to be a husband like that. I know I am going to mess up, but I will do my best to never hurt you.

I LOVE that story. I've heard it a couple of times, but I still get choked up when he tells it.

What a marvellous tribute to a godly man. And this thought shouldn't be limited to the men only. It should be a goal for ALL of us.

What an excellent story, and surely something for all of us (not just men) to mull over. In relationships, both our actions and our words declare loudly how much we care for others. What a wonderful thing...to be so highly regarded by one's own spouse, that they should desire never to hurt us. I often listen to Dr. Tony Evans on my way to work (I'm a school teacher in TX) and right now he's doing a series on relationships. Its been really eye-opening for me, especially because I am a single woman, and I have questions about christian relationships. He was talking about the protection and security that a romantic relationship demands a christian man give a woman. I'd never heard that before, and the prospect of finding someone who could offer me that kind of gift made my heart sing a little. Its inspiring that there are men out in the world who daily recognize those challenges, and still maintain that they desire to master them. So...thanks :)
